Geocultural Connections

Belt and Road creates intersections between sectors. The cultural intersects with the developmental, and diplomacy underpins infrastructure agreements. Here then the grand arcs of the Silk Roads and Belt and Road are made to map onto each other. Today’s developments are thus located in a much deeper “history” of intra-Asian connectivity; a grand vision of past and future built around win-win cooperation and shared destiny. As the projects listed here illustrate, this is a complex landscape, one where geocultural alignments and rivalries make cooperation a competitive and contested affair.
